Check out this recent article (April 2008) from ops america (external link) where they compare the ROI of VMWare vs XEN on SLES. It compares the virtualization of Windows server workloads on the two VT platforms. Even more cost savings can be obtained if some of the services can be replaced by native Linux alternatives like SAMBA (CIFS) for file and CUPS for print services.
